Proposals communicate what should be done. They state why the work should be done, what is to be accomplished, and how. They convince someone that the project will be successful and that the necessary resources should be provided.
People who want engineering work done usually issue a "request for proposals" (RFP). Private companies and the government routinely do this. Engineers spend time responding to RFPs. In order to prepare you for work as an engineer, ELE342 has issued an RFP.
To be successful proposals should follow the format outlined in the RFP. In engineering practice many times proposals that are not formatted as requested are not even read. Proposals that do not contain requested data do not succeed.
