Lab 2 MATLAB Virtual Amplifier Test

Figure 1   Amplifier Transfer function
Vin and Vo shown referenced to ground.
The large signal transfer function for a single ended amplifier is given by,
Vo = 5*sin((pi/10)Vin)2
where Vo and Vin in the above equation are measured relative to ground. The amplifier is powered by a 5 Volt supply. In normal operation, signals are referenced to a voltage, Vmid = 2.5V.

A time interval of 100 mSec is available to take data. The number of samples must be a power of 2.

  1. Select an appropriate sampling frequency.

  2. Test the response of this amplifier to a coherent 1VRMS signal at 4 kHz.

  3. Select an ADC with an appropriate number of bits. Use MATLAB code similar to the code on page 164 to model the ADC (quantizer).

  4. Test the quantizer.

  5. Determine the RMS quantization noise.

  6. Plot the spectrum of the output signal.

  7. Measure the gain, input offset voltage, and the second and third harmonics in the output.
