Faculty development funds are to be used in support of faculty professional development and scholarly activities. The total amount allocated by the University in an academic year is specified in Memorandum of Agreement #10 in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The formula for distribution of the funds is as follows:

• 10% to the office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
• 10% to be divided among deans based on the number of eligible faculty in the college
• 80% to be allocated to departments in a lump sum based on the total number of eligible faculty in the unit

Each department has developed a procedure for distribution of these funds. Funds may be requested to support professional development and research. Professional development, including travel, such as below, may be supported by the fund:

• conference attendance or presenting a paper at a conference
• attending a meeting as an officer of a professional association
• participation in a workshop on teaching
• travel to visit a funding agency
• participation in a technology workshop

Departments (and for their portion, Deans and the Provost) may decide whether other professional development purchases may be supported (e.g., help in publishing a book; purchasing off-prints of a publication or paying page charges; purchase of professional books and journals).

Requests for funds may be made at the department, college or provost level.
