ELE 525 FIBER OPTICAL COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS


Spring 2008 Semester

(Spring Break: March 16-22, 2008)


Description:

Analysis of all the important components in a fiber optical communication system. The physical principles and operation of semiconductor lasers, LEDs, multimode and single-mode optical fibers, semiconductor detectors, receivers and direct detection digital and analog systems will be covered.


Credits:

Lecture 3, Lab 1, making it a total of 4.


Meeting Times and Place:

Class: Wednesdays, 5-7.45pm in Kelley Hall, Room 205

Lab : Thursdays, 5-7.30pm in Kelley Annex, Room A010. (register as ELE 591-0023)


Evaluation:

3 tests, 1 Research Report (in lieu of Final Exam) and 5 Lab Reports.

One test after every 3 chapters; first 9 chapters will be covered from the textbook given below.
