| Sun joined the faculty at the University of Rhode Island in 1985. He has developed and taught several courses in the Biomedical Engineering area. His research in medical imaging and biomedical instrumentation has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the medical device industry. His research results have been published in over 170 articles in professional conferences and journals such as Annals of Biomedical Engineering, IEEE Transactions (Biomedical Engineering, Medical Imaging, Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, and Neural Networks), Optical Engineering, Biomedical Instrumentation & Technology, Cardiovascular Research, Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography, and American Journal of Physiology. He was the guest editor of a special issue on Life Sciences Simulation for the Society of Computer Simulation in 1992. During his 1992-93 sabbatical leave Sun spent a year conducting research at Linkoping University in Sweden and University of Vienna in Austria. Sun has two issued and several pending patents. He has authored several professional software packages, such as MacHeart, CineMac, and C-Tree, for cardiovascular research and imaging. He has served as a consultant to hospitals and industry for over 25 years and has been an amateur classical guitar player for over 35 years. |
