A Senior Member and Distinguished Lecturer for the IEEE, Dr. Sunak was awarded the William Rathbone Medal by Liverpool University and the Best in Technology Award by Brazilian Telecom Journal. He has contributed a chapter to a handbook on fiber optics and published nearly eighty articles in professional journals and in proceedings of conferences such as the Optical Fiber Communications (OFC) Conference. Recipient of funding from the Rome Air Development Center on external cavity coherent transmitter modules, and the National Science Foundation on Erbrum-doped fiber amplifiens. Dr. Sunak is the Chairman of the SPIE Conferences on Coherent Lightwave Technology, and Joint-Director of the Fiber Optical Communication Laboratory, Dr. Sunak's research interests are in:
