Your e-mail address is username@ele.uri.edu (where username is your username). You can access you account with a standard web browser by using our webmail server, but it is often desirable to use an e-mail client, such as Eudora, Netscape Communicator, or Outlook Express.

When you are setting up an e-mail client, it will ask for the name of the e-mail server. The name of this department's e-mail server is:

webmail.ele.uri.edu

This can act as either a POP3 server or an IMAP server. If you use the IMAP server then your messages will be kept on the server. You will also need to be connected to the network to read your e-mail. Using IMAP is useful if you check your e-mail from different computers because your messages will stay in one place. If you use POP3 then every time you check your e-mail the messages are saved on your computer and deleted from the server. This is ideal if you always use the same computer to check your e-mail because you can read your old e-mail even if you are not connected to the network.
