General Education Requirements
2008-2009 University Catalog

All students in Engineering must satisfy the University General Education requirements, with the exception that only one course is required in Foreign Language/Cross-cultural Competence (FC).

Students from the class of 2008 or later can take any General Education course from any University Catalog since they officially started at the University (note that courses are rarely removed). The courses listed on this page are based on the 2008-2009 University Catalog. The university maintains a list which is updated throughout the year.

Students following a curriculum from a University Catalog prior to the 2004-2005 University Catalog (class of 2007 and earlier) cannot use this list, and must use the General Education requirements as they appear in the University Catalog that they are following.

Diversity Requirement – At least two of the courses taken as part of a student’s general education program must be designated as diversity courses, which are indicated by a [D] in the course description. Only one course in a foreign language may be applied to this diversity requirement.

English Communication (EC, ECw)

Two courses on English communication are required, one of which must be a writing course (ECw). Note that only one 100-level writing course (ECw) will count towards this requirement.
