About IEEE
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has established this Student IEEE Branch as a means to introduce students to a professional society. Founded in 1895 , The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is a leading authority on a wide variety of areas ranging from aerospace systems, computers and telecommunications to biomedical engineering, electric power and consumer electronics. Dedicated to the advancement of technology, the IEEE publishes 30 percent of the world's literature in the electrical and electronics engineering and computer science fields, and has developed nearly 900 active industry standards. The IEEE serves 375,000 electrical engineers, scientists, and other professionals in approximately 160 countries and is the world's largest technical professional society. The on-campus activities of our branch involve a yearly Student Professional Awareness Conference (S-PAC), guest speakers from industry and academia, company tours, and tutoring underclassmen in core department courses.
The Institute's purposes are most succinctly expressed in our mission statement:
"IEEE's core purpose is to foster technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity." |
